Southmont board approves principal hire, new essential-skills teacher and several personnel changes

Dr. Hall announced the board had approved Mr. Raymond Jones to be the high school principal; Jones thanked the board, saying, "I thank you to the board, Dr. [Hall], Mrs. Myers, for ... the trust to step into that position." Dr. Hall said Mr. Jones will officially take over July 1 and will transition with Mrs. Hammond, the recently board-approved director of special education.
The board also approved Jennifer Whipple for the essential skills teacher role. Whipple said, "Thank you to the board. Thank you, Dr. Hoer, for this wonderful opportunity. I'm really excited to get started," and described family ties to the community.
Administrators asked the board to approve several personnel changes as last-minute agenda revisions: the resignation of Jessica Barnhard effective March 13; the resignation of Robert Troutwine effective at the end of the school year; the retirement of Pamela Rush effective at the end of the school year; a leave of absence for Mr. Flag from Feb. 4 through March 20, 2026; and a maternity leave for Emma from April 6 through May 22. The board moved to approve the agenda revisions and recorded the motion as passing.
Dr. Hall publicly thanked Pamela Rush for her long service and noted the district will build an essential-skills classroom inside the high school over the summer to support the new teacher's work.
