Decatur County school board approves routine personnel actions, travel, fund transfers and fundraisers

Board Chair opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the board first moved to approve minutes from the Feb. 11, 2026 meeting; that motion carried with a recorded vote of 7–0. The board then approved the order of payment for claims and payroll by the same unanimous margin.
Angel Hawker, who identified themself during the meeting, asked the board to approve attendance at the Maro Mastery Approaches Institute in Chicago (July 7–10) for district staff and presented several student field trips: Kings Island (Mason, Ohio) for North High School 7th grade and South High School (May 22), Louisville, Ky., for North High School 8th grade (May 15), and a Southeastern Indiana Baptist Youth Camp for a 6th-grade elementary group (May 14–15). The board approved the conference and the listed field trips, vote 7–0.
Trustees approved personnel items including the resignation of Faith Campbell (North High School nurse, effective Feb. 27) and a medical leave for Britney Welch (North Elementary) beginning April 6 for up to four weeks. The board also approved hirings to cover leaves and recorded a termination effective Feb. 26 for a part-time braille transcriber. Each personnel motion passed unanimously.
Under old business the board took a second reading of NEOLA policy updates and adopted the newest round of policy changes with no recorded opposition. The board also approved a resolution authorizing transfers from the education fund to the operations fund of up to 15 percent to allow for routine accounting adjustments between funds; the transcript records the authorization but does not specify any dollar amount to be transferred.
The board accepted donations designated for the South Decatur High School FFA program: $250 from Decatur County RMC and $600 from Decatur County Citizens Stop and Dutch Barrel. Trustees also approved student fundraising efforts: a varsity volleyball drive aiming to raise $5,000 for travel, gear, staffing and subscriptions, and a Charger boys basketball camp seeking $2,500 for youth uniforms and practice jerseys. The board approved disposal of obsolete equipment (including 21 batteries identified as surplus) with proceeds to be deposited to the operations fund.
