Covington school board approves routine business, adds stellar employee recognition and reports website accessibility compliance

The Covington Community School Corp board approved routine items on its consent agenda, added a recognition item for a stellar employee, and heard administrative updates including closure of an OCR accessibility complaint.

After the chair moved to amend the agenda to include the staff recognition, the board approved the addition and introduced Sarah Dickerson as the month’s stellar employee. The chair and other board members praised Dickerson’s classroom work and efforts to reconnect families after COVID, noting she helped revive the parent-teacher group and “consistently help[s] her students to surpass their goals.”

The board then moved and approved the consent agenda, which covered approval of previous meeting minutes, claim dockets, fundraisers, donations, field trips and the personnel report. No board members raised questions during that vote.

The board also approved a resolution expressing official intent to reimburse pre-bond expenditures from future bond proceeds. The chair explained the practical effect: the district will temporarily use reserve or "rainy day" funds to pay for facility studies and related work and then reimburse those expenses from bond proceeds after bonds are issued.

In administrative reports the board learned that an OCR complaint filed last June about the district website’s accessibility for persons with vision impairments has been resolved; administrators said they received a letter this week confirming the site now meets required standards.

The board confirmed spring break dates and set its next meeting for April 13, then adjourned.
