Administrators explained that the district and NICC normally use the same law firm, creating a conflict of interest for handling a joint lease, so the district proposed hiring Dickinson Bradshaw "just for this project in isolation," an administrator said. The work will be limited to legal review of the NICC lease draft; the district will return the revised lease for board approval once negotiations are advanced.
On related business, the board approved formal notice to end the current Head Start lease so the district can realign space for the NICC arrangement. Administrators told the board they have been communicating with Head Start leadership and proposed alternatives—returning Head Start to Lambert or possibly locating the program within community daycare space. The motions to engage Dickinson Bradshaw and to issue formal notice to Head Start both passed.
