McCrory board accepts audit, approves $32,210 stadium concrete bid and clears personnel moves

At its March 16 meeting the McCrory School District board approved several routine but substantive items, including acceptance of the fiscal year 2025 legislative audit, approval of monthly financials, awarding a $32,210 bid for stadium concrete work, and personnel decisions following executive session.

Financials and audit: The board approved the prior meeting minutes and then heard a financial report from Mr. Wayer. He said the district spent less than the prior year and had about $381,000 more revenue than the same month last year; he also noted the board made an initial HVAC payment "a little over $157,000." Wayer reported the district’s legal balance across funds 1, 2 and 4 increased about 50.75% over four years, with year-over-year increases of roughly 10%, 13% and 20.89% in the most recent three years. After discussion the board approved the financials and accepted the FY25 legislative audit, which the presenter described as clean with no findings.

Stadium concrete work: The board reviewed three bids to remove and replace concrete pads and steps at the home football bleachers and to correct step heights that did not meet regulation. Bids were $51,800, $40,400 and a recommended low bid of $32,210 from Brockman Construction. The board approved the Brockman Construction bid by voice vote.

Personnel decisions: The board recessed into executive session for personnel at about 6:12 p.m. and returned at about 6:55 p.m. with no action taken while in session. Following the executive session the board approved hiring Kristen Ruddic as high school cheer coach and Monica Engel as junior-high cheer coach for the 2026–27 school year. The board also accepted the resignation of Anthony Rogo effective at the end of the year and accepted Brandy Crouch’s resignation retroactive to March 12.

District reports and events: Administrators reported total enrollment of 505 (as of March 5). The elementary HVAC project is roughly 70% complete; pre-K enrollment was 19 of 20 seats. The high school enrollment was reported at 207; staff announced athletic schedules and student events, including a community color run set for April 18. Miss Johnston reported behavior referrals for a recent three-week period totaled 30, with 12 out-of-school suspensions and 12 in-school suspensions.

What happens next: The board collected signatures where needed for officer paperwork; implementation tasks such as construction contracting and onboarding of new coaches will proceed under staff direction outside the public meeting record.
