CHA says turf and Boyertown Elementary construction moving forward; erosion controls and second‑shift work set

"After I was last here, our bid cost was substantially lower than budget," Lynch said, reporting that the contractor (referred to in the transcript as Landec and later as Lantech) has exchanged shop drawings with the district and township engineers and that erosion- and sediment-control measures were slated to begin on the practice field this week. Lynch said the stadium field work will wait until spring sports conclude.
Lynch described the sequence and logistics planned to limit disruption: the contractor will install construction entrances and staged erosion controls first, use a protective mat system to move heavy materials over the all‑weather track without damaging it, and operate an access gate on Montgomery Avenue from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to receive deliveries. He said much material procurement is already complete.
On the Boyertown Elementary project, Lynch said three prime contractors are contracted for HVAC (JBM), roofing (AE) and electrical (Phillips Brothers). He told the committee that shop drawings and preconstruction coordination are complete and that preparatory second‑shift work — including removal of corridor ceiling tiles so crews can route conduit and refrigerant piping — will begin in the second week of April. Lynch said full roof replacement and heavier electrical work will occur over the coming summer seasons because some long‑lead equipment (notably electrical switchgear) will arrive later.
Committee members asked technical and operational questions. Lynch confirmed that silt socks have been delivered but installation was delayed by wet site conditions, and that Kevin Lys will be the on‑site project manager for both projects; Lynch said he and Lys will maintain daily communication with contractors and district leadership. He also said he expects no net loss of parking during the school year because the stadium field work will be scheduled during the summer and many materials can be staged on the infield once the practice field is stripped.
The committee was told the district will circulate weekly Friday updates — including photos and schedule notes — to board members and administration during construction. Lynch closed by offering to attend future meetings with Kevin Lys when the committee prefers to hear the boots‑on‑the‑ground status in person.
The facilities committee did not take a formal vote on these projects at this meeting; Lynch said staff will return with any additional pricing or schedule changes as required.
