Fort Atkinson outlines draft five‑year strategic goals: learning, belonging and district of choice

Fort Atkinson School District administration presented draft goals for a new five‑year strategic plan at the March 19 board meeting, focusing on three refined priorities: excellence in learning, belonging and growth, and establishing the district as a district of choice.

The presenter described a five‑phase planning process that engaged families, staff, students, business and civic partners. Phase one established district beliefs and guiding principles; phase two gathered stakeholder input and visioning; phase three (current) refines goals and seeks board feedback. Administration emphasized aligning the plan with school improvement plans and producing annual action steps for each building and department.

The first goal—excellence in learning—stresses both achievement and year‑over‑year growth for every student, with continued use of Wisconsin’s state accountability measures as one metric. The second goal centers on belonging and growth, with continued attention to social‑emotional learning and whole‑child supports. The third goal aims to position Fort Atkinson as a district of choice by strengthening community and business partnerships and showcasing district strengths to retain and attract families.

Board members praised continuity with prior plans and the emphasis on measurable growth. Administration said it will return later this spring with more detailed designs for how goals map to department structures and school improvement planning.
