The Fort Atkinson School District Board of Education voted March 19 to hire JP Cullen as the district’s construction manager to provide facility assessments, planning and design support for a long-range facilities master plan.
Nathan Ket, the district’s director of business services, said the finance and operations committee unanimously recommended JP Cullen after an RFP and interview process that weighed compliance, the firms’ body of work and cost. JP Cullen representatives emphasized their K‑12 experience and local connections; Sam Pototts, director of pre-construction, said Cullen has “proven educational expertise” and a record of regional school projects.
Board members stressed that hiring a construction manager at this stage is advisory. Ket said there is no contractual time limit obligating the district to begin a project within a set number of years and that the RFP respondents were told there is not an immediate project. The district requested rough, banded cost structures from respondents so the board can understand potential fees if and when a project moves forward.
The motion to approve JP Cullen was made by Miss Amato, seconded by Miss Sy, and passed on a 5–0 roll call. Administration said next steps include continued committee work and assembling teams to develop a facilities master plan; any future project and associated contracts will come back to the board for decision.
The firm will provide assessments and planning support; no construction contract or referendum was approved as part of this action.
