County updates Deep Lake Park plan; staff to pursue phase-two grant and archaeological study

Hubbard County received an updated concept map and development timeline for Deep Lake Park and discussed the next steps for a phase-two grant application.
Parks staff reviewed the map changes, which include an upper-level campground with 26 campsites, proposed restroom and picnic-shelter locations and trails. Commissioners raised questions about camper-cabin siting relative to the lake, bluff setbacks, parking and restroom proximity; staff noted Minnesota Department of Health standards for restrooms and said sites without full hookups will require a dump station and additional septic infrastructure.
Staff described phased development: clearing and road work have been completed, with road construction expected to be finished before public access; staff said they aim to have road and picnic shelter infrastructure in place so parts of the park are usable by July or August. Parks staff also said they will seek grant funding for an archaeological study that would complete site planning for the remainder of phase two and that the formal phase-two grant application is intended to be submitted before the end of June.
Commissioners discussed holding future board and site meetings, and staff said updated maps and planning materials will be shared with the park board before formal application.
