Hubbard County commissioners approved several natural-resources items including an access easement, reforestation contracts and site-preparation work, and heard details about a coming timber auction.
Natural resources staff asked the board to approve a 33-foot easement across tax-forfeited land to give legal access to Elvin Kenneth Gro (who goes by Kenneth or Ken) in Lake George Township. The staff report said the easement crosses an existing driveway off Township Road 454, the county’s engineering and environmental services reviews were complete, and the applicant will pay $1,155 for the easement. Commissioners approved the easement by voice vote; staff clarified the easement is non-exclusive and runs with the land.
Staff also recommended a hand-planting contract with Superior Forestry to plant 30,000 white pine seedlings across 30 acres at a quoted rate of $89 per thousand trees (total $2,670) and a site-preparation contract (row trenched on 180.5 acres and broadcast herbicide on 30 acres) with Future Forests at $125 per acre for trenching and $99 per acre for broadcast spraying. The board approved the single/low quotes for both planting and site prep.
Finally, staff announced an April 13 timber auction at 9 a.m. in the boardroom offering 11 tracts, focused primarily on pine and other conifers, with a listed base price of $243,200. Results will be brought back to the board after bidding.
