Board approves grant-funded Suburban for CTE student transport

The Wasatch County School Board voted March 24 to approve purchasing a Suburban for career-and-technical-education and CAPS transportation after staff said the district had been awarded about $500,000 in combined grant funds from Perkins and a state catalyst program.
Weston Broadbent presented the request and said the vehicle will be used to shuttle students from both high schools to CAPS and for shorter field trips where a bus is not required. “We will be using the Suburban in a couple of different ways — to shuttle students back and forth from the high schools to CAPS and for field trips and skills competitions,” he said. Staff said the vendor listed in the packet is Labram Chevrolet and the packet lists the vehicle amount as $63,990.80.
Board members praised community vendors who support students and approved the purchase in one motion. Staff emphasized some of the grant funds are federal (Perkins) while others are state catalyst grant dollars and that the purchase would not rely solely on district operating funds.
What’s next: Procurement will proceed with the selected vendor and the vehicle will be assigned to CTE/CAPS operations.
