The Tuscaloosa City Council voted Monday to approve multiple business licenses, a rezoning request and a series of contracts and budget amendments that city staff brought forward on the consent and resolution calendars.
The council approved a restaurant retail liquor license for Safari Tacos and Grill (1759 Skyland Boulevard East) after the police department reported no objections. The council also approved a restaurant retail liquor license for Oasis Bar and Grill (6720 University Boulevard East, Cottondale) and off-premises retail beer and table-wine licenses for Skyland Shell (4809 Skyland Boulevard East, change of ownership).
Council members adopted Zoning Amendment No. 32, rezoning roughly 11 acres (914–920 14th Avenue East and 3–37 Beverly Heights) from SFR4 to SFR3; planning staff said the request conforms to the city’s framework and that the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended unanimous approval.
On the resolution calendar the council authorized a range of professional services agreements and contract amendments, including agreements with Hughes Aerospace Corporation; amendments to the Granicus contract; professional-engineering agreements with Duncan Coker, Shawl Engineering and Porter Heegan Botham Engineering; and tentative public-works awards to ST Bunn Construction and GFC Construction. The council also approved multiple minor public-works contracts, an equipment purchase from Gulf Ice Systems, disbursements from District 4 Improvement Funds and an amendment to the FY2026 General Fund Reserve and the Elevate Tuscaloosa Fund budget.
Clerk roll calls recorded affirmative votes for the listed items. Where staff reported in the meeting, Tuscaloosa Police Department stated no objections for ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) applications and TPD also reported no objections to special-event licenses presented.
Several smaller special-event retail licenses for events at Joe Mallisham Parkway and university-affiliated farms were also approved under a grouped motion.
Next steps include standard contract execution and any required procurement follow-up; council did not pause or refer these items for additional public hearings.
