Board approves consent calendar, hears public comment on utility-efficiency programs and schedules e-bike safety presentation

The Rocklin Unified School District board approved most items on the consent calendar, handled one removed item separately, heard a public comment about tapping utility and other funds for campus efficiency projects, and agreed to schedule an information presentation on e-bike and e-scooter safety.
Trustee Hep asked to remove item 8.2 from the consent calendar for separate consideration. Trustees then moved and seconded approval of the remaining consent items; a roll call recorded Jarrett Counter, Julie Hub, Michelle Sutherland and President Michelle Price voting yes and the motion passed. Trustee Hub then spoke briefly about item 8.2 (explaining it concerned a meeting she had missed on June 18), and the board approved item 8.2 with Jarrett Counter and Michelle Sutherland and President Price voting yes and one abstention recorded for Hub.
During public comment, Anthony Mitchell, president and founder of Echog Green Solutions and an energy services contractor, told trustees that utility bills are expected to rise "about 14%" this year and described programs that use funds tied to utility payments to cover upgrades such as lighting, HVAC, refrigeration and pool equipment with "no money out of pocket." He asked for an information session with district staff to review opportunities. President Michelle Price responded that the district would follow up and asked Craig, the district’s facilities representative, to speak with Mitchell after the meeting.
A trustee also proposed adding an information item for Chief Banks of the Rockland Police Department to present to the board on e-bike and e-scooter safety, local statistics and classification of vehicles. Trustees agreed to try to schedule Chief Banks for an upcoming September meeting.
The meeting then adjourned.
