Senate approves bill letting Mississippi wineries open additional tasting rooms

Senator McMahen, who explained the conference report, told senators the bill is “basically allowing native wineries the opportunity to have some additional tasting rooms in the state.” He said the change aligns winery privileges with those already afforded to distilleries.
During floor questioning, Senator Turner-Ford asked for clarification about what the bill permits; McMahen said it allows the additional tasting rooms and noted the small number of producers in the state — ‘‘we have three distilleries in the state of Mississippi and five wineries,’’ he said. The Senate moved for final passage by morning roll call and the bill passed without recorded objections.
The measure was presented as final action on the bill and will proceed through enrollment and any further administrative steps required for implementation.
