District leaders outline curriculum priorities: elementary writing prompts, media literacy, math alignment and a senior capstone pilot

District administrators used the Sept. 3 meeting to highlight instructional initiatives planned for 2025—6, including a renewed focus on writing, family engagement, media literacy, math alignment and a multi-year capstone pilot for high-school seniors.
Elementary leaders said the district will implement common K—4 writing prompts and rubrics so teachers can analyze student work collectively and make calibrated instructional decisions. "We are establishing and creating writing prompts K through four and then creating common rubrics for our teachers," one elementary leader said, noting the work will inform the larger ELA program selection.
Administrators also said they will strengthen the homeschool partnership through improved newsletters and curriculum-night alignment to include families in curriculum and assessment conversations. Middle-school leaders described a new media-literacy curriculum targeted at grades 6 and 8 aimed at source evaluation and ethical digital use; the district will pilot instruction several times a quarter.
Math initiatives include a district math specialist and a summer algebra-booster program for students on the cusp of acceleration; the district reported strong summer-course results with almost all participating students continuing into algebra.
At the high school, leaders outlined a multi-year plan to implement a senior capstone that would be individualized and could be satisfied through existing pathways such as Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs). The capstone pilots and pathway work are being phased in by grade so the class of 2028 would be the first cohort to complete a full capstone sequence in senior year.
Administrators framed the priorities as part of longer-term strategic goals and said work on scheduling, NEASC accreditation and aligned scope-and-sequence documents will continue through the school year.
No formal votes were taken on these instructional items; the presentation is intended to shape implementation and budgetary planning.
