Bernards Township committee honors police after reaccreditation; resolution passes unanimously

The Bernards Township Committee unanimously adopted Resolution 2026-155 recognizing the Bernards Township Police Department’s reaccreditation by the New Jersey Association of Chiefs of Police.

The measure, read into the record by the clerk and moved and seconded by committee members, passed by roll call with all present voting yes. The resolution says the reaccreditation signifies continued compliance with professionally recognized best practices and reflects the department’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and community trust.

Committee members praised the department’s effort. “They certainly have been very professional in how they approach things,” said Brett, who noted he had met department members and found them committed to best practices. Mr. McN and other members echoed congratulations.

Harry Delgado, representing the New Jersey Association of Chiefs of Police, called the process “rigorous,” noting that roughly one-third of departments that enter the process complete reaccreditation: “just about 30 32% of all the police departments that enter the process make it through reaccredititation.” He described the accreditation program as a transparent way to demonstrate professionalism and preparedness across the state.

Chief Timothy King accepted the committee’s recognition, credited Lieutenant Alex Mcnite as the accreditation manager who led the multi-month effort, and thanked staff and the community for their support.

The committee invited Chief King and members of the department forward to receive the resolution and noted the public was able to provide feedback as part of the reaccreditation process. No further action was required; the resolution was ceremonial and was forwarded to the police department and the state association for their records.
