Allendale council swears in members, elects Suzanne Solo as council president and adopts routine reorganization resolutions

ALLENDALE — The Allendale mayor and council completed their reorganization on Jan. 5 with swearing-in ceremonies, elections for leadership positions and a slate of routine resolutions and appointments.
During the reorganization session, new and returning council members recited the oath of office. At the podium, one official repeated, "I, Matthew Oul, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States..." and later Tyler Yakino took the oath as well.
Council business: The council unanimously approved a package of reorganization resolutions, including Resolution 26-1 (order of voting), Resolution 26-2 (election of Suzanne Lisa Solo as council president for 2026), Resolution 2603 (time and place of meetings for 2026), confirmations of professional appointments (attorney, engineer, fire-code official) and the borough's holiday schedule. The council also confirmed standing committees and appointments for the land use and library boards and approved appointments to the fire department and ambulance corps leadership (Bradley Anderson as fire chief to be sworn at a later date; Kevin Todd as fire official).
Ordinance introduced: Council introduced Ordinance 26-01 to amend chapter 53 of the borough code to fix salaries, wages and compensation for borough officers and employees for 2026; the ordinance was ordered published Jan. 9, 2026 and scheduled for final passage on Feb. 5, 2026.
Other staff notes: The borough CFO said the community center will offer room and gym rentals to residents in 2026 following a 2025 trial year. Deputy Superintendent Andy reported DPW promotions (two staff members promoted to crew chief as of Jan. 1) and operational updates including recent snow responses and Christmas-tree pickups.
Votes and next steps: All routine resolutions and appointments were approved on roll call. The council closed the meeting after noting there were no members of the public who wished to speak.
The council will take up the salary ordinance for final passage at the February 5 meeting.
