Town staff and the project consultant said the township does not yet own the property but expects to close on the purchase this year under an authorized contract of sale; the agreed purchase price is $2,450,000. Speakers confirmed the parcel contains significant wetlands and that about 8 acres are upland and suitable for the proposed construction in Phase 1. Project leaders emphasized they will not disturb wetland areas as part of the current grant application.
Residents asked about timeline, ADA-accessible parking counts and whether developer contributions were expected; township staff said ADA stall counts will be set based on final parking totals and that the township is pursuing other grants to cover remaining costs. Officials estimated permitting and Green Acres review would likely push construction toward 2027. The council noted Phase 2 could include sports fields but said permitting for future phases was not part of the current grant request.
The public hearing provided an opportunity for residents to review concept sketches and ask about trail access, driveway location, and restroom facilities; officials said no restrooms are planned in Phase 1 and that the proposed driveway and parking would be in the upland portion adjacent to the inclusive playground. A formal Green Acres public-review requirement will be followed during the regular meeting process.
Next steps: the township will complete design, submit the Green Acres application for review, close on the parcel, and continue seeking supplemental funding for the remainder of the project budget.
