Board accepts donated flight trainer for high-school aviation classes; one recusal recorded

The Moriarty-Edgewood School Board voted Aug. 19 to accept a donated Glime flight experience trainer from the U.S. Southwest Soaring Museum for Moriarty High School’s aviation program.
Superintendent Bibiano recommended approval of the donation and the board approved the motion by voice vote. A board member announced a recusal, explaining that their spouse serves on the museum’s board; the board’s roll recorded one recusal and the motion carried.
The donation supports the district’s expanded course offerings — aviation, robotics and coding — that were added last year. Board members and staff described the device as a flight experience trainer that will be integrated into the aviation curriculum; Mor iarty High School staff are preparing to adapt it for classroom use.
A board member who recused said, “I am going to recuse myself from this as my husband uh sits on the board for the Southwest soaring museum.” The record shows the member stepped aside for the vote; no further ethics documentation was read into the public record during the meeting.
Next steps: staff will arrange delivery and incorporate the trainer into the Mor iarty High School aviation curriculum. The board recorded the recusal on the public record and carried the motion to accept the donation.
