Board narrows Chelsea Beck replacement to seven finalists; interviews scheduled next week

The Richland School Board voted to invite seven finalists for in-person interviews to fill the vacancy left by Chelsea Beck.
From 19 applicants, board members narrowed the list and agreed on seven names to be invited back for 15-minute individual interviews at a special board meeting scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. the following week. The shortlist, announced by the board, includes Tamara Bernett, Dan Evans, Kristenberg, Alexis Painter, Michelle Robertson, Linda Starret and Beth Stevens.
Board members said they sought candidates who broaden the board’s strengths and in particular noted the value of applicants with children currently in district schools. Several members said candidate backgrounds range from parents with young students to individuals with volunteer and professional experience in education and community organizations.
The interviews will be followed by an executive session for deliberation and a public vote to appoint a candidate; the appointee is scheduled to be sworn in at the board’s Oct. 28 regular meeting. The board also notified the Tri-City Herald that the names would be released as public records and that application materials are public.
Board members encouraged other interested applicants to remain engaged in district work through advisory committees and task forces.
