At the Vineland Board of Education meeting on April 1, Interim Superintendent Dr. McCann updated members on the superintendent search process and candidate numbers.
Dr. McCann said the posting closed with what she described as "around 58 applicants," and later referenced that the district received "all 50 applications." She explained the search firm HYA will help vet applications and the committee plans to interview about 10 qualified candidates selected from the pool.
The superintendent said the district will not provide courtesy interviews to in‑district candidates and that interview locations will not be district sites; locations will be confidential and limited to the search committee, the firm, the applicants and designated staff. Non‑conflicted board members have signed non‑disclosure agreements to preserve confidentiality in the process.
Dr. McCann said the committee will have the ability to change the slate of interviewees (for example, swap in other candidates if concerns arise) and that ultimately the full board will decide which finalists move forward. She emphasized legal requirements for certification: the district will not interview anyone lacking statutorily required credentials.
Board members asked clarifying questions about whether all applications would be available to members; Dr. McCann said materials will be available but the committee will focus interviews on the recommended slate. The board discussed logistics of hour‑long interviews and an expectation to bring two finalists forward after initial interviews.
