District reports 58 HIB investigations, 23 confirmed; administrators emphasize interventions

For the reporting period Sept. 2024 to June 13, 2025, the district recorded 58 HIB investigations; of those, 23 were confirmed under New Jersey’s definition of HIB.
The administration said most reports come from students — a sign, they said, that students feel comfortable reporting concerns — and that the district has updated its HIB webpage with resources and a list of anti-bullying specialists for each school. Officials emphasized that, whether or not an incident is confirmed, the district provides interventions for named students, including group and individual counseling and links to community resources.
Board members asked clarifying questions about prevention and training. Administrators said annual training for staff and students, restorative practices, peer mentoring, and counseling supports are part of ongoing prevention and response efforts. The board will receive the district’s self-assessment under the state-required anti-bullying law later this month.
