Bankra Elementary was the board’s Spotlight on April 1, when students and Principal Nathan Saso shared a video and remarks about the school’s recovery from a recent flood and the ways staff and families supported students.
Students featured in the video described how the school community came together after the flood. "If we went through the flood we could go through anything — the flood taught us that we will always bounce back," one student said in the video.
Principal Nathan Saso thanked teachers, office staff and families for their work to restore the school and described improvements in chronic absenteeism and academic scores, crediting staff efforts for rising attendance and stronger student outcomes. He also named several staff members who support students on campus.
The board presented students with small gifts and photos were taken; the spotlight preceded the business portion of the meeting.
