Nick, who presented both items, summarized the main priorities reflected in the LCAP and the local indicators report: basic services, implementation of state academic standards, parent engagement, school climate, and access to a broad course of study. He reported that the district met state standards for basic services, instructional materials and teacher assignment compliance, and showed improvements on several teacher‑survey measures and AP exam pass rates. Nick also noted ongoing concerns about bullying, harassment and chronic student sadness and outlined plans to implement and expand social‑emotional learning strategies.
On curriculum, board members considered and approved adoption of Campbell Biology (12th edition, Pearson, 2021) as the district’s AP Biology textbook on second and final reading. The board clarified that approval authorizes the curriculum; the district may adjust the textbook order quantity as enrollment changes without returning to the board.
Board members asked for periodic updates on LCAP indicators and were informed that a required update will be provided in January; staff committed to sharing interim reports as needed.
