Redondo Beach Educational Foundation says it will grant more than $1.1 million to district programs; students speak about impact

The Redondo Beach Educational Foundation told the school board on Oct. 14 it expects to award more than $1.1 million in grants to district programs this school year, funding classroom enrichment from elementary music and robotics to high-school scholarships and PSAT support.
Gloria McCree, introduced as executive director of the foundation, described revenue streams including an Investor Drive campaign (goal: 725 investors; current contributors about 520), an upcoming Sketchers Walk on Oct. 19, a golf tournament and a spring gala. "Investor Drive and Sketchers Walk have a lot of impact on our budget," McCree said.
The foundation featured three student testimonials. Amaly spoke about creativity and problem-solving in Jefferson’s robotics program; Olivia, a sixth-grader at Paris Middle School, recalled independence-building activities at a three-day science camp (Camp Pali); and Mason Schwarz described an eighth-grade visit to the Museum of Tolerance and how immersive exhibits deepened his learning.
Why it matters: The foundation’s grants underwrite programs—field trips, extracurriculars, scholarships and contest entries—that district budgets do not fully cover. Students’ brief testimonials underscored the programs’ classroom-to-career learning outcomes.
What happened next: Foundation leaders reminded families about fundraising events and said the foundation will post more information online. Board members and the superintendent thanked the foundation and students for their presentations.
