"It's about $2 million worth of buses and chargers that we're getting for free," he said, urging the board to approve the purchase to replace older vehicles and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.
Board members asked clarifying questions about fleet use and constraints. Mr. Landon said electric buses will be used primarily for routine home-to-school routes, while longer field trips will still require diesel vehicles; he estimated the district will be roughly 50% electric and 50% diesel for its fleet after the additions.
The board moved and seconded the measure and approved it by voice vote, reported in the meeting as a 3-0 tally. Staff recommended approval and the district will proceed with the procurement and charger installation under the grant terms.
The action is limited to the purchases described; no changes to routing policy or broader fleet replacement timelines were adopted at the meeting.
