On Measure A, staff and trustees summarized the county’s fiscal context: county officials estimate more than $1 billion in lost federal revenue per year due to recent budget actions and county leaders placed a temporary sales tax proposal on the November ballot to preserve hospitals and other safety‑net services. The board discussed Measure A’s estimated revenue (staff cited roughly $330 million annually countywide), its proposed duration through April 2031 and the creation of an oversight committee. Trustees noted the local stakes in health access: “A third of our kids are on Medicaid,” one trustee said, and argued that community prevention and local health infrastructure affect school attendance and readiness to learn.
The board approved Resolution 2526‑09 in a roll call vote with Trustees Jennifer Delbono, Twin Fak, Gabriella Kim, Michelle Nelson and Honchu Yi Baker voting yes; Trustees Kenny Moreno and Linda Peno were absent. Trustees said the district will communicate the position in a manner compliant with public‑agency rules on ballot measures.
Trustees framed the endorsement as focused on preserving healthcare, food assistance and other services that district families rely on. Several trustees and staff referenced county reports and a Latino health assessment to underscore the relationship between poverty, student attendance and academic outcomes.
