The Coventry School Committee approved the 2026–27 school calendar on March 12, following a presentation from district staff that highlighted scheduling constraints for the coming year.
The superintendent said the calendar was difficult to build this year because Labor Day falls later and the district must accommodate a primary and general election day in November, both of which are non-school days. ‘‘We kind of have a tricky calendar this year to put together,’’ the superintendent said, noting that the district uses the RIDE master calendar as a baseline to keep neighboring districts aligned.
Committee members asked why the December vacation was shorter this year than the previous year. The superintendent explained the master calendar’s configuration and contractual obligations that make it impractical to add single isolated days at the start or end of the break. The high school will confirm early-release days for common planning time and those will be slotted into the calendar once the high-school schedule is finalized.
After discussion, a motion to approve the 2026–27 calendar was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
