Toms River to pilot Kaplan real-estate pre-licensing course at High School South

The Toms River Regional School District will pilot a Kaplan New Jersey real-estate pre-licensing course at High School South this spring, curriculum staff told the board Feb. 18.
Staff said Kaplan will offer an asynchronous 75-hour pre-licensing course at a 50% discounted rate to students; the district presented the student-cost option of $164.50 to cover the course. Students 17 and older may enroll and will have up to six months to complete the course and take the included exam; students who turn 18 after graduation may register for the state licensure exam on their own when eligible. The pilot will target business-academy students this spring and staff said they would consider opening enrollment to all high school students the following year if successful.
District presenters described the course as offering practical content ranging from mortgages and home-value concepts to financial planning, saying it could expand career-path options for students who pursue real estate or related fields after graduation. Guidance counselors will help publicize the program to families and staff will monitor student interest and outcomes during the pilot period.
Board members responded positively in the meeting record and staff said they will report pilot outcomes once the spring offering concludes.
