Milford inland wetlands agency tables pool application after staff flags wetlands proximity

"This is IW26011," Mary Rose, agency staff member, told commissioners as she shared an updated map prepared by a professional wetland scientist and field-verified by Richard Plain Surveying. She said the application shows silt fencing roughly 10 feet from the wetland line but that updated mapping revealed more wetland on the property than previously thought.
The proximity concerned commissioners. "Are they going to stockpile materials behind that silt fence that would kind of drain into the wetlands?" Commissioner Ray Gradwell asked. Commissioner Scott Marlo pressed whether the agency should require tracking pads or treat the filing as a full application with as-built drawings rather than issue a jurisdictional ruling.
Staff further told the agency that the septic system location must clear health-department review before zoning and building approvals, and that a dry well may be required for pool backwash depending on the pool system. Mary Rose said she had not been able to confirm some site notes on the file and that the applicant, the surveyor and the pool contractor were not present at the meeting.
After discussion, Mary Rose reported a measured distance of about 3.2 feet between the wetland line and the proposed work in one corner of the site, a discrepancy commissioners characterized as "pretty tight." "It might be good to limit how close they're getting to the wetlands back here," she said.
Because of the unresolved questions about fill disposal, access route, whether trees would be removed, and the exact placement of erosion controls, the agency voted to take no action at the April 1 meeting and to table the application to the next regular meeting so staff can follow up with the applicant and obtain the missing details.
