Utah State Board approves three student‑safety policies including suicide‑prevention requirement

Chair Wood stated the motion that the board approve the suicide prevention policy (draft two) on second and final reading; the board then voted with 12 in favor, one opposed and two absent. The board later approved the truancy prevention policy (draft two) on second and final reading with a vote reported as 13 in favor, one opposed and one absent. The child abuse and neglect reporting policy (draft two) passed unanimously, 14 in favor with one absent.
Board members did not request additional substantive amendments during the meeting. Member Bogus was recorded as the lone vote opposed on the first two measures; Member Hall and Member Booth were noted as absent for the first vote. Chair Wood and others emphasized the items were on final reading and procedural vote text was read aloud before each tally.
