CVB wins 2028 Code Enforcement Association bid; staff previews mobile unit and events

Laredo Convention & Visitors Bureau staff told the advisory committee April 2 that the CVB won a competitive bid to host the Code Enforcement Association of Texas conference in 2028 and outlined several operational initiatives: mobile visitor services, sports bookings and outreach to other Texas markets.
Sophia, a CVB staff member, was credited with winning the 2028 bid for the Code Enforcement Association of Texas; staff said the office will continue hosting preparations with partner agencies and volunteers.
Staff reported recent outreach to Corpus Christi for media interviews and noted plans to deploy the CVB’s mobile unit to a large statewide convention in Corpus Christi. The mobile unit has been tested at local events and will function as a mobile gift shop, visitor center and video display at outreach events, staff said.
The Buista Sports Complex is increasingly booked for local and out‑of‑town tournaments, generating weekend business through the next three months, staff reported. The committee was also told that the second annual coffee festival date in the packet (Oct. 24) had been changed to Oct. 3 because of staff travel conflicts.
Why it matters: convention wins and sports bookings bring group business and overnight stays, which support local hotels and retailers. The mobile unit is intended to increase on‑site visitor engagement and to extend the CVB’s outreach at festivals and conventions.
Staff invited committee members to review further details as plans are finalized and to participate in promotion and partner coordination for the 2028 conference and other major events.
