The Oyster River school board on Feb. 18 accepted a community donation and authorized additional district funds to support a student music trip to Orlando.
The board voted to accept $3,723.73 from the Oyster River Music Association to offset instrument-transport and related costs. Separately, the board authorized the use of up to $5,500 from the current operating budget to cover remaining travel expenses — including bus transport to the airport, truck rental for instrument transport and incidental travel costs — after trustees said the high school account had sufficient funds and no line-item transfers were required.
Board members thanked the music association and community volunteers for fundraising and noted the logistical decision to rent a truck rather than ship instruments given costs and travel complications. Both motions passed with seven board members and the student representative voting in favor.
The district did not vote to increase overall district spending beyond the approved authorization; the $5,500 motion authorized a not-to-exceed amount to be charged to existing high-school trip funds.
