Oyster River students qualify for world robotics championships; DECA and music teams earn state honors

School staff highlighted several student accomplishments and upcoming events during the meeting.

Bill Sullivan of Oyster River Middle School reported that three robotics teams had qualified for the World Championships in St. Louis at the end of April. "We have three teams that have qualified for the World Championships and they'll be heading to St. Louis, Missouri at the end of April," Sullivan said, and asked the board and community to support the teams.

At the high-school level, Kristen Parin reported DECA competition results and other student honors. She said several students placed in competitions and are eligible to advance to the International Career Development Conference in Georgia in April. She also listed state placements and New England qualifiers in track and swimming and congratulated student journalist Jari Hool on an All New England selection.

The district calendar includes school concerts, a Scholastic book fair and other community events: a book fair at the elementary school on March 17 and March 19 (evening hours), elementary pancake breakfast and maple-sugaring activities, middle-school chamber orchestra performances with the high-school orchestra on March 19, and a district faculty concert on March 12. The student representative also noted a NAMI 5K on April 18.

What’s next: The board acknowledged the achievements and reinforced district support for student travel and participation in competitions. No formal board actions were taken on these items during the meeting.
