Harbor Hope Recovery Center opens in Chesapeake to serve students across five districts

Chesapeake Public Schools announced the Harbor Hope Recovery Center, a recovery high school housed in the districts Educational Services building, is open and accepting students from Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach.
"Young people who are struggling with substance abuse and addiction now have a new resource right here in Chesapeake," said reporter Erin Holly in a recorded segment shown at the breakfast. Program coordinator Bruce Clarke described a model that combines licensed clinical care with educational continuity so students can continue their studies while pursuing recovery.
The district said enrollment is free and open on a rolling basis to eligible high school students from the five participating districts. Harbor Hope is the fourth recovery school of its kind in Virginia, the materials shown at the event said. Local advocates including Virginia Beach School Board Vice Chair Carolyn Weems have pushed for recovery-focused options after personal and community losses to overdose.
Program representatives said Harbor Hope aims to provide students with therapeutic support, life-skills instruction and a smaller, focused educational environment; detailed enrollment criteria, capacity and long-term funding arrangements were not specified during the presentation.
