The Village of Terrace Park council voted April 14 to adopt Resolution 4-2-2028 authorizing the village administrator to enter into an agreement with JK Muir Corp for installation of elevated crosswalks on Elm Avenue at a cost not to exceed $12,925 and declaring the action an emergency.
Public works representative Mr. Lindell described two locations for raised crosswalks: one on Elm near Franklin and another moved slightly toward the log cabin in front of the school to aid student access. He said the structures will be made of asphalt, will be marked for visibility and are intended as speed-calming measures rather than the larger speed bumps elsewhere in the village. Lindell said the top surface would be roughly 4 feet wide and the rise could be about 6 inches.
Lindell introduced the resolution, which councilors seconded and adopted by voice vote. He said the work is already included in the street budget and noted some road-base repairs will be scheduled where heavy equipment has caused damage.
Why it matters: Council framed the crosswalks as a pedestrian-safety initiative focused on children near the ball fields and school. The resolution includes an emergency clause to enable prompt contracting and installation.
What happens next: With the agreement authorized, staff will finalize the contract with JK Muir Corp and schedule work at the Elm Avenue locations; council discussion indicated the village will coordinate markings and signage and monitor roadway impacts during installation.
