The Borough of Belmar held its 2026 reorganization meeting and administered the oath of office to two council members, Michael Delasio and Kevin Don. Both completed the standard oath and concluded with the phrase, "So help me God."
A council member nominated Council McKinnon for council president, a second was recorded, and a roll-call vote elected McKinnon to the post by the recorded votes of present members. The meeting also paused for group photographs following the swearing-in.
Mayor Beesco announced the recent death of Jean Kavanagh, the father of the borough's fire administrator, and the assembly observed a moment of silence earlier in the meeting. After the reorganization items the council moved on to its consent agenda and a series of routine appointments and resolutions.
The public-comment period followed the appointment items; a resident asked about the practice of reappointing the business administrator and the mayor and borough attorney explained that, under borough ordinance, the business administrator serves for the term of the mayor and separate annual resolutions are not required. The meeting then moved to a motion to close public session and adjourn.
