Board approves vice principal appointment, student-discipline actions and policy adoption

The San Bernardino City Unified School District board on Wednesday approved a slate of personnel and disciplinary items, including the appointment of a vice principal, several student-discipline motions and a mandated policy revision.
After returning from closed session, the board approved the appointment of Teresa Rodriguez as vice principal of Bing Wong Elementary School. Dr. Doy Xan introduced Mrs. Rodriguez, noting her "nearly two decades of service to SBCUSD," and Mrs. Rodriguez thanked the board, saying she is "truly honored and grateful for this opportunity" to continue serving the district.
The board also considered multiple student-discipline motions. The board voted to authorize expulsions and youth-court modifications as listed in the agenda "in accordance with board rules and regulations and in compliance with ed code section 48900," a staff reading of the action said. Several related motions for readmission and youth-court remands were also moved and carried by roll call.
On the consent agenda the board approved Personnel Report Number 14 dated Feb. 3, 2026, which contained routine hiring, retirements, resignations and promotions. The board also approved an amendment to a district emergency alarm-system resolution and approved the Career Technical Education Advisory Committee.
Finally, the board moved, seconded and adopted Board Policy 5145.3 on gender identity and non-discrimination after a motion from Miss Medina and second by Mr. Tilman. The motion carried by roll call vote.
The meeting minutes and posted agenda list the specific students (by identification numbers) and personnel items addressed; the board directed staff to return requested follow-up items in future reports.
