Marian County coalition outlines short‑term clinics and longer plan to bring health services to Jefferson

Will Thomas presented an update on the Marian County Health & Resource Coalition, which he said was formed to knit together existing providers so residents need not travel to Tyler or Dallas for basic care.
Thomas said the coalition has lined up partners including Community Healthcore (the regional mental health authority), UT Tyler faculty and the Marian County Hospital District. In the near term, the group will use Marian County Hospital District offices and weekly outreach clinics to provide screenings, primary care and vaccinations; longer term the Jefferson ISD annex is slated for conversion to a community health site.
Coalition leaders emphasized coordination—transportation links through East Texas Council of Governments and a strategy of one‑stop access rather than building new infrastructure immediately. Thomas asked the council for public visibility and facility support (meeting space, promotion) while community partners scale up services. He announced a June health fair and a June 20 “freedom walk” as outreach events.
Next steps: Coalition to finalize contracts with service providers, begin weekly clinical days and coordinate outreach with city staff to publicize services.
