Greater Lowell committee names Michael Barton superintendent pending contract

The Greater Lowell Regional Vocational Technical School Committee voted to appoint Assistant Superintendent and Interim Principal Michael Barton as the next superintendent, pending successful contract negotiations.

Committee member Matt Sheen moved to nominate Barton, noting the nomination followed discussions during the prior executive session after Superintendent Davis announced her retirement. Several members spoke in favor of an internal promotion and Bartlett's institutional knowledge; others asked whether a public interview process should be offered. One member said the committee’s legal counsel advised that a search was not required.

The motion to appoint Barton was seconded, the committee voted by roll call and the appointment carried. After the vote Barton said, "I appreciate the support that you've given me this evening," and praised Superintendent Davis for her leadership, vowing to maintain the school's direction.
