Mayor Steve Johnson presented a plaque to the Harlem High School girls bowling team at the start of the March 16 meeting to recognize the program's ninth state championship and an undefeated season.
The proclamation and plaque summarized the team's accomplishments: ninth state championship captured on Feb. 21, 2026; an undefeated conference title; multiple invitational, regional and sectional championships that continued a program tradition dating to 1999. Coaches and players accepted the recognition at the podium and posed for photographs.
A coach described the team's work ethic and late-season resilience, saying the players "never gave up" despite falling behind earlier in a key meet and closing strongly to secure the title. Team members and coaches thanked the board for the recognition.
