Council supports Special Olympics torch run; department launches online fundraising page

Commander Kam Woodward described the department’s fundraising page (Team San Fernando PD), invited donors and runners and said the department will promote the page on city social media and at neighborhood meetings.
Commander Woodward said prior city teams have raised about $5,000 in past years and hopes to increase that total with wider outreach. The event is multi-agency; department runners carry the flame to raise awareness and funds for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Council members volunteered to run and asked staff to prepare promotional materials, QR codes and an outreach plan to encourage school and community participation.
Staff confirmed the council previously authorized multi-year participation and social-media co-sponsorship; the department will coordinate logistics and outreach.
