Planning staff report backlog reduction and change in complaint mix; snow/ice calls drop
Summary
Planning staff reported a drop in snow/ice removal complaints (from 67 to 12 in the compared period), a modest rise in property maintenance and signage complaints, and that the office closed more complaints than it opened for the first time in the recent past as they work down a backlog.

Planning staff provided a quarterly enforcement update, reporting a sharp decline in snow and ice removal complaints compared with the prior period, and noting the office has recently closed more complaints than it opened.
Robin, a village planner and code enforcement officer, and Matt, who recently joined municipal enforcement after retiring from the police department, said the reduction was largely a function of weather differences (fewer storm calls) but that nuisance complaints—junk vehicles, property maintenance and signage—remain active. Matt gave a specific example of an ongoing case involving roughly 33 junk trucks stored on a half‑acre lot, which staff continue to pursue through code enforcement and permitting channels.
Staff said they have been proactive on older open complaints and are working through a backlog so that closures now outpace new openings. Commissioners said the improved closure rate helps restore community confidence in enforcement follow‑ups.
