The Marshall Public Schools board approved several finance and facilities items on March 9, including an environmental abatement, technology upgrades, gym-floor refinishing and a one-time educator stipend.
Arch Environmental Group recommended abatement work at Gordon Elementary to address ceiling work in the cafeteria and on the stage as part of a Healthy Schools grant; the board approved the recommended $28,190 cost to be paid from the district sinking fund.
For technology infrastructure, the board approved purchases of network switches and UPS replacements through MOSS at a total of $32,466.53. Presenters said E-rate will reimburse 85% ($26,282.79) with the district funding the remaining 15% ($4,638.14) from the sinking fund; an additional non–E-rate portion in the quote will be paid from the technology deferred account.
The board approved sand-and-refinish work on the middle-school gym by Specialty Flooring at a contract price of $41,000, with work scheduled between June 3 and Aug. 18, 2026. Board members discussed switching from oil-based to water-based finish for maintenance and odor concerns; presenters said the current floor will likely last about 10 more years after the work.
Finally, the board approved issuing Section 27L educator compensation stipends of up to $950 on the April 10 payroll, funded by state-designated 27L allocations in the Michigan School Aid legislation. The stipend approval passed by voice vote.
