Nashville Public Library to reopen Maine Library March 30; staff return, parking and shuttle plans outlined

The Nashville Public Library board heard detailed plans Tuesday for reopening the Maine (main) library and immediate steps to ease public access once the building reopens.
Terry, speaking for library leadership, said the main building passed a final inspection and "we will be able to open on Monday uh March the 30th." She said staff returned to Maine the day before the meeting and that the foundation provided unrestricted funds to welcome employees back.
Library staff described parking arrangements meant to reduce access barriers while the library garage remains offline. Susan said McKendry Garage has agreed to honor a discounted rate equivalent to 90 minutes at $4, and staff are negotiating with Nashville Yards garage for additional patron parking. The board also will operate a twice-daily shuttle from the 4th Avenue garage for staff and patrons while the library garage is inactive.
Board members emphasized monitoring usage and customer experience after reopening. "When you look at comparison data for 2026, it says 198. Here's the thing. I don't think it's fair when you look at that two of our busiest libraries are closed," Terry said in a discussion of visitation statistics, noting the system served nearly 200,000 visits in February with key branches temporarily offline.
Library leaders asked the public for patience while parking and circulation patterns settle and said they would collect feedback (including QR-code pulse surveys) during the reopening period so they can adjust operations quickly.
Next steps: staff will finalize garage agreements, operate a temporary shuttle schedule, and implement customer feedback mechanisms during the first weeks of public operations at Maine.
