Clearfield County proclaims April Child Abuse Prevention Month; Children's Aid Society outlines prevention programs

Clearfield County commissioners on March 24 proclaimed April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month and heard from Allora Royer, manager of family support services at Children's Aid Society in Clearfield.

"My name's Allora Royer. I'm the manager of our family support services program over at Children's Aid Society in Clearfield," Royer said, and outlined three programs the agency runs: Triple P (the Positive Parenting Program), Nurturing, and Parents as Teachers. Royer said Triple P addresses problem behaviors by working with parents to change parenting strategies; Parents as Teachers serves prenatal to age 5 and focuses on child development and family needs. She described outcomes the programs aim for, including increased parental confidence, reduced use of coercive discipline, improved pregnancy and birth outcomes, and prevention of child abuse and neglect.

Chair Tim read the board's proclamation into the record, citing partnerships among families, social service agencies, schools, faith and civic organizations, law enforcement and businesses, and formally declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Clearfield County. The board moved, seconded and approved the proclamation on a voice vote; the commissioners offered to sign copies and participate in a photo.
