Taos High principal spotlights SAT boot camp, AP enrollment and wellness-room use

Taos High School Principal Amy Martinez Tejeda presented a summary of student achievement and programs to the Taos Municipal Schools board on March 25, citing gains on assessments, expanded AP participation and expanded student supports.
Martinez Tejeda said the school hosted an SAT boot camp for "probably 120 plus students" to improve SAT readiness and that Gear Up funded materials and presenters. She reported 70 students are enrolled to take Advanced Placement exams, with over 150 exams expected to be administered. Martinez Tejeda also highlighted scholarship offers to seniors and participation in national competitions by student groups.
On wellness and student supports, Martinez Tejeda described a wellness room partnership with Taos Alive: "There have been over 2,000 students seen in our wellness room," she told the board, noting daily lunchtime circles and restorative-justice community-building work. The school is rolling out suicide-intervention training for staff and peer-mentor programs and is continuing work on career and pathway programs, including CTE, culinary arts, welding and a youth climate summit that will showcase outdoor learning.
Board members praised student ambassadors' participation in community events and asked clarifying questions about test attendance and program funding. Martinez Tejeda credited the PTSO and Laura Foundation subsidies for helping pay exam fees and said administrators are working to increase access and awareness of supports for students.
The presentation concluded with board members requesting a future update on CEO Fridays and program lists to show annual progress.
