Taos Municipal Schools board approves field repairs, HVAC upgrade and warehouse security contracts

The Taos Municipal Schools Board of Education approved three facilities contracts at its March 25 meeting that together cover athletic-field maintenance, HVAC control upgrades and security-camera improvements.
The board approved a Yellowstone Landscaping contract to grade, level, reseed and aerate Taos High School and Taos Middle School athletic fields. The agenda listed the amount as $28,254.49; the item was approved by roll call (Concha, King, Trujillo, Spray, Flores — all yes). Maintenance staff said work responds to prairie-dog damage, mounding and rutting and follows recent extermination work.
District maintenance staff also presented a proprietary-system issue with the district’s existing automated HVAC controls. Continental Controls no longer supports the equipment, and Trane — identified as the only other licensed dealer able to support the system — proposed an upgrade and platform migration estimated at $34,230. Maintenance staff said Trane will bill for services performed (hourly) and that the upgrade includes new software and hardware elements. Board members asked procurement and liability questions; Superintendent Leyden recommended approval with follow-up legal review to verify insurance and contract language. The board approved the Trane work by roll call (all yes).
Finally, the board approved a Verkada security system for the operations department warehouse (covering upgraded cameras, two-door access control and an interior camera) in the amount of $29,122.27. Staff said the facility had been burglarized twice last year and that the proposed package is a starter configuration designed to be upgradable. Board members discussed future expansion and asked staff to ensure proper legal and technical review.
All three items were approved by unanimous roll-call votes. Board members recorded a desire that future contractor agreements be routed to legal for review of liability and insurance terms before vendor work begins.
