District presenters reviewed preliminary architectural renderings for a proposed renovation of the junior high and a new field house, and trustees were reminded that early voting is two weeks and the bond election is scheduled for May 2. The board asked that, if the bond moves forward, summer school not be scheduled at the junior-high campus so construction can begin quickly.
The visuals, prepared by the Huckabee team, showed a refreshed façade for the junior high, a front covered-porch-style awning, a new fine-arts addition and a field house labeled 'Gatesville Athletics.' Presenters said interior schematics are not ready for presentation and that Huckabee, along with Mr. Boyle and McCreary, will return next month with more detailed plans.
Trustees discussed adjustments to the junior-high parking approach and were told the design will make the drop-off area more shallow for improved circulation. Staff characterized the current renderings as an early exterior look and said a fuller presentation of interior layouts and specifications will be available at the next meeting so construction planning could begin promptly if voters approve the bond.
The board’s presentation emphasized readiness to move quickly if the bond is approved: staff asked the board to avoid scheduling summer school at the junior-high site to allow contractors to 'hit the ground running' and streamline construction sequencing. No formal vote on the bond itself was taken at the meeting; the item was presented for information and will return with more detail at a future meeting.
