Board authorizes staff to execute county participation settlement in national opioid litigation
Summary

On March 24 the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors met in closed session on pending litigation matters. After returning to open session, the clerk reported no reportable action on one case (Maxwell v. Calaveras County) and reported that, on a motion by Supervisor Huberty and a second by Supervisor Topinelli, the board voted 4–0 to authorize staff to execute a settlement agreement on the county’s participation in the national prescription-opioid litigation.
The clerk named multiple defendants included in the settlement authorization (examples read on the record: AmerisourceBergen Drug Corporation and other distributor and wholesaler entities). The board’s report-out indicated the authorization was limited to executing the settlement documents; the clerk recorded that the vote to authorize staff was 4–0.
